It’s the first Monday of 2014. A day that offers the promise of a fresh start to a new year.
Like almost everyone else, the start of a new year makes me excited and leaves me feeling extra ambitious.
For example, today I started my day with oatmeal and blueberries, instead of the usual leftover chocolate and Christmas baking that have been my breakfast staples through the month of December. Horrible, I know. But I’m not sorry. :)
As I make plans, to-do lists, and set goals in order to make 2014 my best year yet, I needed to do one thing first.
Warning: Things are about to get personal.
When I started in this business, every real estate agent I spoke with warned me of the unpredictability of this career. Being 100% commission sales, your income is entirely dependent on how many homes you sell and the crazy high expenses involved in being licensed to sell in this industry.
Those other agents weren’t lying. This business can be tough and being self employed in general is no walk in the park. Some days you can feel on top of the world, and other days you can feel like nothing is going right. But nothing worth having comes easy, right?
The most pleasant surprise since first getting my license three years ago has been how supported and encouraged I have felt from those that know me, and those that have come to know me.
And that brings me to what I need to tell you...
No, seriously, THANK YOU!
Thank you for showing interest and asking about how life in real estate is when you see me at a dinner party or in the grocery store.
Thank you to my clients over these past three years. You could have picked any of the thousands of real estate agents to work with and you picked me. I am honoured to have been able to help you buy and/or sell your homes and am humbled by your trust in me. Having clients that become friends has been a really exciting part of this whole journey!
Thank you for recommending me to your friends, co-workers, family, and neighbours. The fact that you trust me to take great care of these people means more to me than you will ever know.
Thank you for sharing your comments and “likes” on my Facebook page and Instagram photos. Thank you for reading this blog and sharing your feedback with me. Knowing someone cares enough to comment, let alone read, the things I put out into the world through social media still makes me smile.
Thank you to the network of other professionals that I have had the good fortune of meeting and learning from. One of my goals for 2012 was to gather a group of fellow self-employed women together who could act as a network of encouragement and support for each other. Not only do we have a great time when we get together, but you ladies have taught me so much!
And last but certainly not least, thank you to my amazing husband, family and friends. Thank you for understanding that my hours are unpredictable, for being my sounding board, for sharing your ideas, and being excited about what I’m working on. Knowing that you are always there to cheer me on makes all the good days that much more fun to celebrate!
2013 was a great year for me professionally and personally (I got married!!!) I have no doubt that the year ahead is going to continue to stretch me and give me lots of reasons to celebrate.
My sincere gratitude to each of you for your support.
2014, I’m ready for you!!!
